ADHD
The abbreviation ADHD stands for Attention-Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder, which refers to a neurobehavioral disorder. It is characterized by inattentiveness, distractibility, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. ADHD is one of the most neurodevelopmental disorders in childhood, with estimates of its prevalence in children ranging from 5 to 11 percent.
Children and adults diagnosed with ADHD may struggle to focus on tasks at school or work and often experience frequent daydreaming. Children with ADHD may exhibit disruptive behavior in their relationships with parents, peers, or teachers. Children who have difficulties with hyperactivity and impulsivity often present behavioral challenges that can be challenging for adults to handle.
Symptoms of ADHD can disrupt performance in school, household responsibilities, and relationships. Coping with the disorder can be difficult for both children and adults.
Multiple comprehensive studies have indicated that a combination of behavioral and pharmacological interventions may be the most effective approach for treating ADHD. Psychological counseling is one of behavioral interventions beside attention training and structured routines.
